Starting the Viking Passage

This afternoon Mom and I walked through a grassy field to a wooded path that led to a residential area with kids on bikes, a woman feeding geese, and some houses with thatched roofs. The sun was out and balanced the somewhat cool breeze to make the 68 degree day pleasant. We aren’t in Texas any more.

We’ve made it back to Amsterdam to embark on another adventure. This walk was especially nice because our original plan had us on a train from London to Amsterdam in this time window. About 30 hours before we were to depart, British Airways canceled our flight from Austin to London. So, we booked a direct flight to Amsterdam. We arrived here mid morning instead of 7 in the evening. Our hotel room was even ready a couple of hours early and so we were able to check in, shower, have a nap, take our nice walk, have dinner, and start this blog in the time it would have taken us to get here on the original itinerary. (It isn’t all roses. The original ticket was for a nicer seat on the plane and purchased with airline miles.)

Is this a lilac?

Tomorrow (June 29, 2024) we will board the Zuiderdam and 21 days later we will disembark in Boston. In between we will visit Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and Canada. We’re excited!! I plan to chronicle our experience here if you’re interested in reading along.
