On board, heading north to Norway
For this trip we are aboard Holland America’s Zuiderdam, which holds 1916 passengers and 842 crew. It is petite relative to the New Statendam, on which we sailed in April. Our veranda stateroom is on deck 5, fairly close to the front. We’ll have every opportunity to feel waves, although maybe not as much sway as we got on New Statendam’s deck 10.
Even though this ship is small relative to many cruise ships, she is still grand, with original artworks adorning the stairwells and fresh flowers throughout the public spaces. There’s a lot to explore.
Yesterday evening, after a nice dinner with some new acquaintances, we finally left port and began our journey to Norway. Today is a sea day and I’m happy to report the North Sea is surprisingly calm.
This is not how I imagined the North Sea would be.
I started the day with a little Tai Chi by the pool and soon Mom and I will go watch a cooking demonstration. Later we will attend a Q&A on our port tomorrow (Alesund). Pleasant puttering. I hope your day goes well too.
