Nuuk
Nuuk started the day cold and wet, but we had ample shuttles waiting to take us into town. The first thing I noticed is that most residences are multi-family. Downtown has many newly built apartments and shopping centers.

From the shuttle bus we walked through a modern food court to a mall with an up scale grocery store, florist, and toy store. The second level had mostly clothes, but one shop sold souvenirs, mementos (some made of ivory) and pelts. Mom got a hat pin and some musk ox yarn. Later in the day we learned that the fibers are harvested after the musk ox shed them. The yarn is surprisingly expensive, but apparently also quite water resistant.

After shopping a bit, Mom was ready to go back to the ship, but I stayed and wandered around town for a little while. There’s not much to wander through though and I quickly found myself walking on the road back to the ship. It rained harder and soon I was soaked from mid thigh, where my raincoat ended, to ankles. My pants were not quite as water resistant as I had believed. My Allbird shoes did better. It was so good to get in a nice walk out doors even if I did arrive back at the ship cold and wet.

In the middle of the day we watched Wimbledon and eventually the rain cleared. In the evening Mom and I took the shuttle back into town to try the local brewpub and arrived at Daddy’s pub just in time for the start of the England vs Netherlands semifinal game.

Tomorrow (Thursday) and the day following will be sea days. Saturday we should be in Newfoundland Canada.
