Isafjordur

In the morning we received some good news. Rather than competing with three other ships in port today, we’d be accompanied by only one other ship, the MSC Proseia who was along side us in Akureyri as well. The Nieuw Statendam and another ship were changing their itinerary because of the ice situation to the south and east of Greenland. This ice will also affect our trip, but not yet. Anyway, instead of having 4 cruise passengers in town to every native, there would be only two. Also, it was neither as cold as anticipated nor as rainy.

The main thing to do here is to get on a small boat and cross over to a smaller island with puffins and other interesting wildlife. We didn’t sign up for that excursion and so we made do walking around town. To get ashore we first had to get in one of the tender boats.

The distance between where we are anchored and town.

Once on solid ground, we walked around for a bit before stopping in a cafe for lattes, in a shop for a ball of variegated merino yarn, and a couple of pints (one each) at the local brewery.
