Easy second day in Reykjavik

Yesterday’s adventure was amazing and we are still digesting all the information we took in on our 7 hour tour. (And this sort of experience helps prepare me for what Robert and I might be signed up for on our September land tour of Australia and New Zealand.) Today the plan was more modest than yesterday’s; just go into town and see what we see. There’s a free shuttle from the cruise port to the Harpa Concert Hall (pictured below). I knew this building would be interesting and it didn’t disappoint.

From here we walked up to the main street and then to the Rainbow street, where there are many art galleries and gift shops. At the top of the street you can see the famous hallgrimskirkja church.

Although we went into many shops, our main target was The Handknitting Association. There we bought many balls of wool yarn, mostly for Mom to work with, but I even got one to work with myself. Mom’s been making beautiful scarfs all trip and it makes my hands jealous.

We have just over an hour to go before we leave port and start our way to Greenland over the next three days. We will have to sail south to get past the tip of Greenland and the massive ice flows coming off it. The Captain says that we will be experiencing near gale force winds as we go. I hope we aren’t sideways to it because I know from experience that that is tough going. Time will tell…
