Cruising along

It’s our second full sea day after Bermuda and I’m not struggling as much with sea sickness. I still can’t look at anything for too long, but I’m generally feeling good and can enjoy food. Right now I’m sitting by the pool watching the second round of a “classic” cruise games tournament. This round looks like it might be a version of beer pong without the beer. But it’s been a while I have some catching up to do with this blog.

After my first post on the first full sea day of the trip the sea started to develop a roll and I wasn’t feeling great, but okay. We went to a talk in the main large theater up at the front of the ship and I had to leave halfway in because the room was spinning in impossible directions. I might have slept the rest of the day. I don’t remember. The next morning I continued to feel quite ill and had little interest in doing anything other than sleep. We were scheduled for one of our specialty dinners at the seafood place in the evening. I saved up all my reserves for the evening and was able to at least recognize the quality of the meal. The grilled red snapper with pesto sauce was perfectly prepared.

Then we arrived to a perfect day on Bermuda.

To make efficient use of our limited time on land, we booked an excursion. Our guide, Samuel, took our little group to the Chrystal caves, which was discovered in 1907 by two adolescent boys playing ball, as many caves are. They descended down a deep dark hole and never found their cricket ball, but at the bottom they landed in a pool of water in a large cavern decorated over millions of year by minerals deposited by water traveling through the limestone.

After the cave we visited the zoo, where one entered exhibits with the animals. Okay, I guess. One highlight was a brilliant parrot fish in the clear waters just outside the zoo. There was also a lemur who seemed to enjoy posing for visitors.

After the zoo, we visited a pink sand beach and a lighthouse. Robert and I were among the small minority on the bus that climbed the 187 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Robert paused up at the top of the lighthouse to take some pictures. Maybe he’ll add some below once we have enough internet to upload something again.

After all that we were hungry for lunch. Happily we had some freshly made pizza waiting for us on board the ship.
