White Pass into the Yukon

The most obvious thing to do in Skagway is to take the three hour round trip White Pass train ride into Yukon Territory. We started in town, a 10 minute walk from the boat. One could get the train at the boat and save the walk if the trip had been booked through the cruise line, for only $7 more (each). We were happy to stretch our legs a bit instead. At the start we followed along the river and learned about a red caboose one could rent from the park service to stay overnight. We were told that it accommodates 6 uncomfortably.

The train went through two tunnels and arrived at a treeless, foggy summit with much beautiful vegetation growing close to the ground. We briefly passed I to Canada before turning around and heading back down.

Now we are back at the ship, where I’ve put a washing machine to work while I type this. (I think I’ve finally successfully uploaded the whale feeding video from Sept. 8.).
