Ketchikan surrounded by the sea

Yesterday was our last port before we disembark in Vancouver tomorrow. Only one other boat was in port and so the shopping was easy, which was lucky as this was probably the best place to shop as far as variety and quality go. A creek runs through the middle of town. It was full of salmon, most living and a few dead. The shop keepers informed us that things would be getting only smellier from here <<gag>>. The seals in the creek seemed unfazed. Mom bought a beautiful pair of opal earrings and I bought a pair of woven shoes, upcycled from an old tapestry.

For lunch we went to a local taproom where we were advised by a couple leaving to split a burger; advice we followed with gratitude. There were a mix of locals and tourists and the food was not only generous but tasty, especially the fries.

Today we are at sea. Mid morning only a few clouds were in the sky and the sea was a rich blue.

Now it is an odd mix of sunshine and fog. Happily the sea is calm and we are merrily progressing toward the gap between Vancouver Island and mainland Canada. Iā€™m hoping that we get to see some whales later this afternoon.
